The Demon

The Demon may not be perfect, but it's pretty entertaining. The character, Etrigan, and his host, Jason Blood,  are joined together through a soul graft engineered by none other than Merlin. (yes, that Merlin) Basically, for the first half of the series in the 90's, Etrigan messes around until he's fed up with messing around.

Don't worry they're buddies

There are also a lot of guest stars in this series, ranging from Robin and Superman, to the lesser known Lobo. The only problem is that this series takes place in Gotham City....and Batman is nowhere to be found. Batman is everywhere in Gotham these days.

This is the reason why I am a liberal

You're in Gotham and you're too embarrassed to by condoms?

You have never had it as bad as this guy has.

The secret desire of all janitors is to have a harem of  Wonder  Women
He runs for president, (You'll never see his birth certificate or tax returns), makes sweet lovin', ruins a man's life, and defeats a magical janitor with a harem of Wonder Women. And that's only 5 issues. This guy gets a lot done

Oh that's a clever rhyme
I should mention that Etrigan speaks in rhymes, and occasionally his fails miserably at them. He eventually gets around to taking a road trip through hell with Lobo, a Minotaur, and a pillow that talks. Yes this guy is that cool

There is also a musical issue. It's crazy.
Blue Beetle is still a tool and nobody likes him
Well that's all for The Demon! Come back next time for a review of Anthony Clark's Dr. McNinja.

What's next

You might of noticed a pattern on my blog where I review an American print comic, a web based comic, and then a manga. This pattern is one that I will be using for the future. So the next three reviews are as follows:
American Print- DC's The Demon
Web- Dr. Mcninja
Manga- Saint Oniisan

Stay tuned for more reviews here on Comics Reviewed

Shootings

Hopefully you all know about the shootings in Colorado last night. I express my condolences to the victims or people who know the victims. But this wouldn't have happened if our country had stricter gun-control laws.

20th Century Boys

What is 20th Century Boys? It is a manga that will knock you socks off and then some. It will knock your socks off and your friends and families socks off. Socks will be all over the place. This series, by Naoki Ursawa, is pretty hard to describe without revealing some pretty big spoilers, so this review will be pretty short.

The story involves, in brief, a childhood fantasy, a cult, an epidemic, and a robot thing. But don't let that lack-luster overview keep you from reading this master-piece.

The antagonist of this story is the mysterious Friend, the leader of a cult whose identity is unknown, which just adds to the enormous mystery that encompasses the whole plot. This story has more twists than a road through the Alps. And those twists are awesome. Read this series. Read the volumes if you can get your hands on them or read it online.

Gunshow

What do you get when you cross internet shenanigans with the styles of underground comixs? You get Gunshow, the weirdest web comic around.
Yes this comic is not for everybody
Written by KC Green, Gunshow is a comic that is filled with the nonsensical and the occasional crude humor that is not for everybody. But, if you like crazy animals, pointless jokes, and occasional fan-fiction, Gunshow is the comic for you.

Cat+historical figures=joke

While this comic does contain a good amount of nerd culture jokes, unlike most comics that pander to nerds, Gunshow contains elements in its art and writing that hearken back to the underground comix movement.

But that's besides the point. This comic is funny regardless of it's art or its influences and you should really give it a try.

Lots of anime jokes, in fact, the is a whole story line involving  an anime club

It's gone now

But if you found these previews interesting, then go check this comic out at http://gunshowcomic.com/

Captain Atom

The best magazine ever
When Captain Adam changes his name by two letters, he becomes Captain Atom, the superhero with powers equal to that of God.....except he has no idea how to use them!.
Well not exactly....

Captain Atom is basically Dr. Manhattan with pants and no idea what he's doing. His story starts when he is found guilty of treason, and in exchange for freedom, Captain Adam volunteers to undergo a scientific experiment.  He disappears and leaves his wife and kids behind him. This all happens in the sixties.
Dude's kids look messed up
Now that Captain Adam is out of the picture, General Eiling marries Adam's wife and raises his kids. Why because that man is a terrible person. Here is a picture of him shooting a cardboard cutout of a Muslim
This is America! We don't need geographically correct maps
The Blue Beetle is such a tool

Is this really necessary Eiling?
But this isn't the last we've heard Captain Adam. In the year 1986, Captain Adam reappears out of nowhere and the military secures him.
Everybody is dead. Poor guy
After regaining his senses, Captain Atom escapes and meets up with the man behind the Captain Atom project, Dr. Megala, who is now basically a robot in a sick wheelchair and his muscly assistant Babylon
You missed Footloose

Babylon, what are you doing?

After he goes through a training montage, Captain Adam is found by the government, and General Eiling offers him a chance to serve his nation as a secret agent.
Don't forget your fudgesicles when you go a-spying
And that's how Captain Atom starts, time jumps and jerk military commanders. This series, while it really amounts to nothing, is a bit interesting, considering the fact that Captain Atom gets to fight a whole bunch of nifty villains.
Those French Canadians, they crazy
Well that's it for Captain Atom, comment or share if you liked this and tune in next time

Working on a review of Captain Atom. May be up today or tommorow

Gyo

Some people like to think of manga as a one trick horse, being limited by its art style and the process by which manga is published and distributed. But some artists defy the mainstream and create works which surpass the manga that is published in the US. One of those artists, Junji Ito, manages to create something so horrifying that its actually pretty interesting.

Gyo, a horror story about corpses run off of gaseous expulsions, (or farts) is not for the weak of heart or those who wish to read something before hitting the sack.
Don't let your friend mistake an overpowering death stench for your breath

The story, which involves Tadashi and Kaori, starts in Okinawa, where a terrible stench interrupts the couple's vacation.

Never going to eat fish again?
Much to the couple's dismay, the stench seems to be coming from a zombie fish with legs that has taken a liking to their vacation home.

Bags=Scary as hell
If that wasn't enough, these critters are all over the island, and they just don't seem to die, even when one is stuffed in a plastic bag and stomped on a few times.

Stuff of nightmares
In addition to the frightening concept of fish zombies, our heroes have to deal with other more dangerous sea-dwellers. And that's when they decide to get the hell out of Okinawa and promptly fly back to tokyo.
Me and my facial hair are having a hard time believing you
Enter the scientist, Dr Koyanagi. He looks a little insane and it seems like he has answers. So he dissects one of the fish things

Face-hugger vibes

The cause of all this ruckus is a bio-engineered plague dating back to WWII designed to turn mammals into fart bombs that would send the Americans running back across the Pacific. That didn't happen and science gone wrong came and bit the Japanese people in the collective bum. Now if you just need to know what happens to our two heroes, you'll have to buy this comic or read it yourself online. Also, the comic comes with a few bonus stories.

How did he get under that pillar? He'll never tell
One is The Sad Story of the Principle Post, which is pretty short and incorporates the urban legend about human pillars.

The other is The Enigma of the Amigara Fault, which is pretty web-famous in it's own right. It involves a cliff face that is uncovered by an earthquake with lots of man shaped holes in them...and then people start to go in them.

The conclusion has been parodied multiple times on the web, with both Sponge-bob and  Archie.

That's it for Junji Ito and his creations! Remember to comment or share if you liked this, and see you later with more comics!
